(Or why it might be time to block #Bluesky, who are choosing to make space for ICE and other a**holes.)
You may have noticed that the Butterfly App has been discussed extensively (again) on the Fedi this week. In light of this, as a community, we’re having some chats about whether or not it’s time to block the bridge that connects us, and we’ll make that decision together soon.
As many of our ARMY and fanfic friends are over there, I know some Apobangpo community members will have some feelings about this. If you’d like to share your thoughts, you can join the discussion on our Discord server, add a comment below or message me (@pixelcats) on Mastodon.
In the meantime, here’s some info on how to opt-out of the bridge and/or avoid Butterfly app content, in case you’d like to do that sooner rather than later.
How to Opt Out
If you’ve bridged your account and would now like to reverse that, so that your posts are not shared across Bridgy Fed, all you need to do is search for **********@*******id.gy” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>@bs**********@*******id.gy and unfollow and block that account. Bridgy Fed will deactivate your bridged profile in the network, and it will no longer bridge any of your posts or interactions to the butterfly app.
How to Block Posts from Bluesky
To avoid content from Bluesky accounts that have been bridged to the fedi, you’ll need to block the domain. You can do so by following these steps:
- Find a user whose address ends with ‘@bsky.brid.gy’ – for example ******@*******id.gy” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>@bs******@*******id.gy
- On the user’s profile page, click the ••• button
- Choose ‘Block domain bsky.brid.gy’
- Confirm the block by clicking the red ‘block server’ button.
Thanks everyone. Keep safe out there!
