Today has been a day of Apobangpo experiments. Hooray!

After watching the drama unfold over at reddit, I’ve been really interested to see a couple of newer platforms emerging that connect to the Fediverse and have similar features. Whilst I love Mastodon, and am really excited to see our little community getting stronger there, I do think it lacks a few features that ARMY love – mainly properly threaded posts and forum discussions, and space for more long-form writing (eg. fan fiction, bangtan theories etc). I think in the longer term it would be great to have a little suite of tools we can use as a community, and if they were all connected in the Fediverse via ActivityPub, that would be even cooler.

So, on a public holiday in Australia, I got to spend some time exploring and experimenting, as it’s always good to see what’s out there. After some testing, I’ve concluded that Kbin is definitely an interesting option, and so I’ve started a Magazine (the equivalent to a subreddit) on the main instance of Kbin – kbin.social. It includes tools for Image, Video, Link, Blog and Article posting and a nice layout. The interface is still a little unintuitive, but I’m sure that will improve as it evolves.

Everyone from Apobangpo and our broader BTS/Kpop community on the Fediverse is welcome to come join the experiment. At this stage we’re just tinkering, but if we decide it’s a worthwhile platform, I’ll look into setting up our own Kbin Instance in the near future. Please be aware this platform is still in very early beta and it is very wobbly right now. It is also experiencing a massive influx of new users during the Reddit Blackout. It might be hard to login or slow. Please keep trying, and feel free to get in touch if you need help.

Please also note, that I am absolutely NOT considering moving from our Mastodon Instance. Apobangpo.Space will always remain at the centre of whatever toolset we end up with. Thank you for being there for the last 6mths to help it grow!
