How to choose a Mastodon App (client)

You can use the default app or webclient, or explore custom apps. Check out the options below!

One of the key things to do after you’ve signed up to Mastodon is figure out which tools you’d like to use to browse and post. The good news is there are options for both desktop and mobile device users. Check them out below:

The Mastodon web interface is a great first option. It includes all features, you don’t need to install anything, and you can access it from any device.

If you’re not sure where to start, this is your answer.

To use the web interface simply go to https://apobangpo.space and make sure you’re logged in.

Mastodon Mobile Apps

There are official Mastodon iOS and Android apps. You can download them from your preferred App Store.

They have improved significantly lately, and are a good choice when getting started.

Custom Apps

Many users find third-party apps the best option for connecting to the Fediverse. There are a range of options to explore on the Mastodon website at: https://joinmastodon.org.

Choosing a third-party app for Mastodon depends on your priorities and how you prefer to interact. Members of the Apobangpo.Space community use a range of options, but many recommend these:

For iOS: Ice Cubes (Free), Trunks (Free), Ivory (Paid). Mona (Paid).

For Android: Moshidon (Free), Tusky (Free), Fedilab (Free), Buffer (Free).

Try a few apps and see what feels right. Your account on Apobangpo.Space works with any client that supports Mastodon, so you can switch freely or use different clients on different devices.

Custom Web Clients

Beyond the standard web interface at apobangpo.space, there are some alternative web clients you can try in your browser.

Elk (elk.zone) gives you a cleaner, more modern Twitter-like experience

Phanpy (phanpy.social) is another solid option with a unique, minimalist design that feels really smooth.

These all work right in your browser, no installation needed, and you just log in with your Apobangpo.Space account like you would with any app.

Setting Up Your App

Connecting most Mastodon apps to Apobangpo.Space is pretty straightforward:

  • Open your app and look for “Add Account” or “Log In”
  • Enter your server: Type in apobangpo.space (not your full username, just the server name)
  • Authorize the app: You’ll be taken to a browser page asking you to log in to Apobangpo.Space and approve the app’s access.
  • You’re done! The app should automatically connect and start loading your timeline

Some apps might ask for your full username (like @yo******@*******po.space) instead of just the server name—either way works fine.

Protip: If you’re already logged into Apobangpo.Space in your browser, the authorization step is usually just one click.
